It's November at La Flaujaguaise!

le Petit Journal de
La Flaujaguaise

November 2018
"Au revoir" to a magnificent Indian summer in Flaujagues ...

November, a month of big projects !

We are now more than 120 members and growing fast at La Flaujaguaise and more new activities and services are starting this month : computer classes (the first preparatory meeting drew nearly 40 participants…), a cooking activity featuring local, traditional and creative cuisines, as well as English conversation afternoons around a warming pot of tea…

… and certainly not to forget our « potluck aperitifs » every month which gather a great number of us, and the many other activities and services of La Flaujaguaise already well-established and appreciated by so many !

All of this tremendous energy has unfolded in a true spirit of creativity, warmth and friendship that give a veritable meaning to the phrase « vivre ensemble » (live together).

It is for this reason, at La Flaujaguaise, that we think now is the perfect moment to ride this wave of willingness to get involved and participate in our community and push ahead with ever more ambitious projects. In November, you will be invited to a major meeting concerning a project that we wish to build together with you and which concerns all of us …

More ample information will be coming your way in a few days at our monthly Potluck Aperitif on Saturday November 10th.

Meanwhile, many thanks to all
and happy reading of your Petit Journal !

Jean-Marc et Jean-Luc

1st « Restaurant Challenge » with La Flaujaguaise

The principle of this challenge is simple : we ask local restaurants to propose a 25-euro per person menu including a starter, a main dish and a dessert with two glasses of wine
( one with the entrée and one with the main dish) and coffee or tea.

Our first night out for the Challenge to les Jardins d’Anahid in Pellegrue was a perfect success !

We discovered a very attractive setting in a pretty garden and two dining rooms set with tables for 4 to 8 persons. The warm welcome and friendly service and the apéritif shared in the garden on an Indian summer’s evening will remain a wonderful memory.

At table, the menu was very well thought-out : high quality, fresh ingredients, an excellent chef and beautiful presentation. The choice of local organic wines was in perfect accord with the cuisine.

Might we add that the participants were in top form : joyous laughter finished the evening up « comme il faut » !

Les Jardins d’Anahid, 4 Vacher Ouest, 33790 Pellegrue

We’ll keep you posted for coming events with the La Flaujaguaise « Restaurant Challenge ».

Jean-Luc is organising a 7,5 km walk on the hillsides overlooking the Dordogne River, leaving from Flaujagues. On this circuit you’ll discover several beautiful panoramic views of the village, the winding river and the valley beyond.

Come along and exchange in English with your French neighbors !
Jennifer is leading this new activity at La Flaujaguaise and it’s a perfect opportunity for our native English-speakers to improve their French conversation skills in a relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere.
This month’s theme is Holidays and Travel.
A French/English vocabulary list based on this subject will be sent via e-mail to all of the participants shortly before the meeting in order to prepare a bit ! During tea, our French speakers will be placed in small groups according to their level of English. It would be great to have at least one native English-speaker with each group to keep the exchange going !
Meet us at the Salle polyvalente on the riverside in Flaujagues at 16.00.
Jennifer will also be organising English/French outings such as the Quiz Nights at the Gensake, fish and chips dinners, etc.

Please confirm your interest and/or presence directly to her a in order to be kept informed.
See you there !

This month’s film is Ingmar Bergman’s « The Seventh Seal ». It will be shown at 20.30 on Tuesday, November 20 in its original Swedish/Latin version with French subtitles.

Diane has organised a special price for our members with the cinema La Brèche in Sainte Foy la Grande.

Upon presentation of your La Flaujaguaise membership card at the cinema, you will pay only 5 euros (instead of 6€50) entry.

La Brèche in Ste Foy has changed its program, here is the new one.

I propose setting up a special ciné club WhatsApp group, if you want to be part of this, send me an email at

If someone is going to the movies, he sends a WhatsApp and the other members can join him if they want to.

There is also a cinéma in Monségur.

It's run by an association so we won't be able to negotiate prices. Check out their website for details. They also have screenings followed by coffee and viennoiseries in the early afternoons for « seniors ».

There are quite a few of us « foodies » at La Flaujaguaise, with a passion for not only traditional and regional French cuisine, but also more exotic cooking and recipes coming from further shores.

With a view toward organising a cooking group at La Flaujaguaise (recipe exchange, preparation of traditional and « foreign » dishes, winter preserves and canning, shared meals …) let’s meet together in a culinary spirit to share and discuss our ideas (all ideas are welcome !) and plan our future activities.

Meet us Tuesday evening, 27th November at 18.30 in Paula and Jean-Luc’s home, 5 le Bourg Sud (next to the church) for a delicious get-together dedicated to « la bonne cuisine ».

This being the cocktail hour, the theme of the evening will be « hors d’œuvres » : come along with a small plate of your favorite nibble to share, along with the recipe. Paula will compile all of the recipes for everyone to have after the meeting.
A few bottles would be most appreciated, as well !

Please let us know if you would like to attend (especially if you’d like a place to sit !) and/or if you are interested in being a part of this group at

Make "sport" rhyme with "fun" by joining us every Wednesday evening from 18.30 to 19.45 at the Foyer polyvalent in Flaujagues.

November announcements …

I was invited by my friends, Yolande and Jean-Pierre Labrousse to the family fête this summer on August 25th at La Flaujaguaise, and also to the Eco-fête in September. In your company I found a super ambiance which I enjoyed immensely.

Recently retired, I am looking to relocate in the region and am interested in finding a studio or one-bedroom lodging for one person only, with a maximum monthly budget of 400 euros, situated in Flaujagues or close-by, preferably in the countryside.

Please contact : or by phone at 06 79 11 69 66 if you know of an available lodging.
