le Petit Journal de La Flaujaguaise in English September 2018

le Petit Journal de
La Flaujaguaise

September 2018

Dear Friends,

La Flaujaguaise’s first summer has surpassed all our hopes!! Even those of our most ardent optimists: in two months, 80 new members, a festive outdoor meal on the riverside that drew over 80 guests, canoe outings, restaurant nights, pétanque parties, hikes, a national film premiere… not to mention our now-famous monthly potluck apéritifs and the ladie's night of dancing and fun under the light of the full moon!!!

But above and beyond all the festivities we organised this summer – and intend to reinforce and continue throughout this autumn and winter - we are now working on new objectives aimed at bringing the inhabitants of Flaujagues and the surrounding villages together in a practical daily sense, encouraging solidarity, participation and cohesion in our community.

And September is our starting block: you’ll find more details below in this Petit Journal de La Flaujaguaise.

We wish you all a happy return from the summer holidays and extend our great appreciation once again to the entire team who made our August 25th event such a huge success !

Bring your own equipment and something to quench the thirst, along with a snack or two : we'll share the bounty.

From 10.30 on, conferences (in French) on the subjects of climate change, edible forests, cities and territories in transition, vegetable and medicinal gardens.

Games and activities for children run throughout the day.

A plant and seed swap, a local fresh food and artisanal market, organic restaurant service (bring your own plates, cutlery, glasses!) complete the day’s offering and a traditional French « bal » finishes it all up starting at 17.00.

MASCARET OUTING - TUESDAY 11 SEPTEMBER

The Mascaret advances up the river at a speed of 10 to 20 km per hour and the wave can reach 1,36 meters in height, but is not constant. The village of Saint Pardon, near Vayres on the Dordogne River is a particularly good viewing spot for this local phenomenon.

Meet us on the port in Saint Pardon on Tuesday, September 11th when there will be the highest coefficient of the year at a healthy 110: the Mascaret is due to arrive at Saint Pardon at precisely 18h14 and the wave waits for no one! We will be on the port from about 17:15 on to watch the surfers take to the water.

Ride-sharing from Flaujagues will leave at 16h45 from the Place de la Mairie.

We’ll open a few doors that rarely are anymore and share the ambience of yesterday and today : even a few Flaujagues mysteries may be revealed!

Come along with your own anecdotes, photos and memories … at the end of the walk, La Flaujaguaise will buy you a drink !

Coming to La Flaujaguaise …

CINE-CLUB PROJECT

As a first step in the project of a film club activity for La Flaujaguaise, Diane has organised a special price for our members with the cinema La Brèche in Sainte Foy la Grande. Upon presentation of your La Flaujaguaise membership card at the cinema, you will pay only 5 euros (instead of 6€50) entry.

La Brèche presents specially chosen « ciné-club » films every Thursday evening at 20.30, starting on October 11 with Shōhei Imamura’s « Balade de Narayama » which won the Palme d'or at the Cannes film festival in 1983.

Documentary films will be added to the La Brèche calendar in November. We will keep everyone up to date on this activity as it progresses : ride-sharing from Flaujagues to La Brèche can be organised for those interested.

Julien can sometimes make weekly organic vegetable baskets. He has fields at Fougueyra on the road outside of Flaujagues on the river road towards Castillon. Contact him at coucou33jul@gmail.com

Marion also sells vegetables. She has a different selling system so the best is to contact her directly so she can explain the way she works.  marionstannard@yahoo.fr
